What to Expect

Going to a new place can be intimidating. To take some of the edge off, here's a bit of what you can expect when you visit City Church:

Our Building

We meet in the Old St. John's building. It's really old. And it says, "St. John's Church" on the outside... but don't let that fool you! You're in the right spot. There are tons of signs and volunteers on Sundays to help you find a parking place and make your way into our recently remodeled interior that certainly does not feel like your grandma's church... unless your grandma goes to City Church, that is.

The Environment

As soon as you walk in, you'll probably see people from all sorts of different backgrounds and stages of life. Most people dress pretty casual, including the pastoral staff who wear jeans on most Sundays. People wear everything from shorts and flip flops to slightly more “dressy” clothes for some. The most important thing is that you wear what you are comfortable in. We hope you grab a cup of coffee on us, which you're more than welcome to take into service with you (you're a big kid, and don't need us to tell you where you can and cannot have a beverage, right?).

Worship Services

Services are typically 65-75 minutes long. Every week, there will be music led by a band and a sermon which our pastors work extremely hard to make deeply biblical, culturally relevant and immediately applicable. We promise there won't be any weird moments you're asked to stand up and introduce yourself or anything like that!

Where do the kids go?

We think middle and high school students will find our Sunday morning services engaging, and hope they come back for their own age-specific programming on Sunday nights.

Parents of young children are usually glad to know that they can take their children to the “City Kids” area of the building. A team of well-trained volunteers who have all been background checked for the safety and well-being of the children, care for newborns through fifth graders, creatively teaching those who are old enough about Jesus.

It’s our desire at City Kids to create a fun and engaging environment for kids to learn about Jesus with solid Biblical teaching by caring leaders.

So, while you are in the main worship service, your child will be participating in an engaging worship experience designed just for them, with age-appropriate teaching so that they can learn about Jesus on their level.

The City Kids Main Entrance is located on the Market Street side of the church building, and there is a drop-off/pick-up area for your convenience.

The first stop you’ll make in City Kids is Check In. We will collect basic contact information and issue you with a security tag that matches your child(ren). You’ll need to show this security tag when picking them up at the end of the service. The next time you attend, you will be able to check in at the check-in computers.

Come and check us out! We think you will find that City Church is not only extremely friendly, but open to people from all walks of life. If you'd like to plan a visit and have name badges ready for your kids when you walk in, click here.
